Crazy Good Allergy-Free Apple Crumble

  • Prep time: 20 minutes
  • Cook time: 40 minutes
  • Total time: 1 hour
  • Serves: 4 Servings

Ingredients

Crumble

  • 1 1/4 cups Gluten free oats
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Gluten free flour mix
  • 1/4 cup Allergy free margarine, (We use Becel-Vegan)
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable shortening

Filling

  • 4 Granny smith apples
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon White sugar, (Sub with Agave if vegan)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice

Method

  • 1)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

  • 2)

Mix together the oats, brown sugar and flour ingredients in a medium sized bowl.

  • 3)

Add margarine and shortening to bowl and combine with the dry crumble ingredients by mashing with a fork until you get a even crumbly texture free of big lumps. Set aside.

  • 4)

Peel the apples and slice into smaller bite sized pieces discarding the apple core.

  • 5)

Pop the sliced apple into a small to medium casserole dish, then add the sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice, stir until all the apple slices are covered and flatten out.

  • 6)

Pour the crumble mixture on top of the apple and even out the crumble so the apple in fully covered.

  • 7)

Cook at 375 for 40 minutes, or until the apple is soft and the crumble is nicely toasted.

  • 8)

Let the crumble sit for at least 20 minutes, then scoop and serve!

  • 9)

This crumble is great with some coconut whip and/or fresh berries. We even sometimes have this for breakfast in which case a plant based (nut free) milk is a great accompaniment.
